b. 1985 lives and works in Scunthorpe, UK.
British artist Michael Burkitt is determined to create a masterpiece, at least once. He says he is "in search of a new form". Until he finds it he offers objects, images, sounds, instructions, performances and stories; encouraging collectors and curators to welcome institutional critique to bait the hunt.
Believing that "Art is the propaganda of freedom" Burkitt has an affection for movable material; exploring our obsession with efficiency in humorous, laborious and failing processes. His work is always context-specific, site-responsive and connected to an audience.
Burkitt encourages agility in his work embracing the live and unrecorded stories it creates; questioning our commitment to collaboration, relationships with artwork, artists and each other.
